“I found myself looking at my work with mosaics in a new way after taking your class and want to thank you again for sharing your techniques and insights with me. I had been looking at a project and making a design plan before executing, which is still an option, but after taking your workshop I am able to look at the tesserae to spur my design inspiration. It has added a new dimension to my creativity. Thank you.”
“Thank you a million tesserae over for another fabulous workshop. The two of you have the best qualities to guide a group of would-be artists – patience, knowledge, and above all, you are non-judgmental. You recognize that each person’s work is personal and, while you offer suggestions in order to improve composition or technique, you always phrase them in a way that truly makes your students be comfortable about accepting – or not accepting – your ideas.”
“Thank you Kim and Dennis! What a wonderful weekend! You made it such a fun, nurturing and educational experience- I enjoyed every minute. 🙂 And am so impressed by how great all the mosaics came out– each one is so beautiful. Kudos fellow mosaic artists! I’ll be looking forward to my next class!”
“Dear Kim and Dennis,
We had such a wonderful time this weekend. You both made us feel wonderful with all your support and lunch and in my case I improved a lot and I appreciated your input. Lola did wonderful and I love her opus! Thank you for sharing your love for mosaics to us and we will be looking forward for the smalti workshop in October.” – Lourdes
“I learned so much from you this past weekend. I am so happy for myself that you are offering these workshops and are starting the San Diego Mosaic School. And I am so excited for you and Dennis. What a great experience you are giving to others and you have so much expertise to share. I wish you all the best for the school.”
“Thank you so very much for the fantastic workshop. The extensive quantities of materials that are available have something to please everyone. I felt like a little kid in a candy store. It was so gracious and thoughtful to make us beverages and a healthy lunch each day. Your individual classroom attention was outstanding when assisting each of us with our varied projects.”
“I am still so energized from the mosaic workshop with Kim Emerson. I came across her beautiful artwork when I was searching for San Diego mosaic artists on-line. Kim is an inspiring and knowledgeable teacher. I learned so much in the two-day workshop and can’t wait to put these new skills into action on my next project. I look forward to taking more classes with Kim as soon as I can!”
“The workshop was more than fun for me. It provided me with an opportunity to experience a side of myself I never knew existed. My friends and family always heard me say: “I’m not artistic.” I could never draw or paint, or even take an artful photograph. Working with the mosaics, using a design of my own creation, gave me the opportunity to put into tangible form thoughts and feelings I had about El Salvador, a country that holds great meaning for me. I can’t believe I actually created something so artistic, something I am proud to show off!”
“Kim is a great teacher. She gently suggests rather than dictates. She has a great library of mosaics to pick from. I made a Roman wagon wheel from a mosaic I had seen in Sicily. It was my first mosaic but Kim made the experience very enjoyable . A great two days!”
“It was such a relaxing two days, and I became totally absorbed in the cutting and placing of the tesserae. When I finally looked up at the clock, I couldn’t believe I’d spent hours without thinking about anything but the project. I appreciated so much the individual attention because I was so unsure of myself at the outset. I came out of the experience convinced that I have been walking around artistic all my life, but never knew it!”
“Thanks for the lovely lunch and the opportunity to socialize with the other students during the lunch break. Working with mosaics was new for all of us. It was so interesting to see everyone’s piece develop – all so different – even though we were presented with the same materials from which to choose.”
“Dennis and Kim, thanks to you both for your teaching and hospitality today. It was a wonderfully creative experience being in your cozy little yard/studio. Nona and I both loved everything about it. It’s obvious that you have given it a lot of thought, and have set up a learning experience that is personal, nurturing, and satisfying. That is not an easy thing to do. We both agree you’re offering something that is very valuable and unique and we wish you the best in this new journey. So honored to be there at the beginning.”
– Chuck and Nona
Your workshop was so special – it filled me and thrilled me:) The entire weekend was so rich with inspiration and your stories of mentor friends and incredible teaching. You and Dennis are so special and compliment and care for each other so well.
Thanks again for a well-run, informative, and exciting workshop. I can’t believe the beautiful mosaic I ended up bringing home. And I learned what I needed to know to be able to make my own mosaics. Loved the lunch, the array of materials to choose from, the positive teaching and your passion for mosaics. Thanks also for the very complete materials list. The spontaneous method that you teach is so much fun…opens up the creative juices and lets you jump right in. What a great workshop!
It was delightful (yes, delightful) to meet you both. I’m so glad the powers lead me to you and that so many of us were able to participate. It was great meeting Lee and Wendy too…and so cool that Wendy has a bunny too – what are the odds. I have a WHOLE new appreciation for mosaic. The weekend was fun (albeit exhausting), educational, enlightening….you both are so patient and helpful. And…the lunches were yummy! I look forward to making more mosaic pieces in the future and am already thinking about how I can make my own tiles in ceramics class.
Thank you Kim and Dennis for being such patient, informative and fun teachers! I really enjoyed the workshop and was happy to be able to create a mosaic that was more advanced than I expected from a beginning workshop 🙂
I will look forward to doing another one of your workshops in the future!
